~ Nurturing Spirit
       ~ Being Community
Living Generously

This week we continue with our series “The Future with Hope.”  We are reflecting on the progression of living things to help us focus on our growth as people of hope. In a time when hope is so desperately needed by so many, we remind ourselves that not everything in life is a “quick fix.”  It takes patience to wait for and create the future we desire.

Today's service was recorded by Rev. Nancy and Rev. Carla with music provided by Julian Pattison.

Rev. Nancy will be reflecting on "The Remembering".

Meet our friendly welcoming team for Sunday morning worship.

They really are smiling under those masks!
Note the truly Canadian measuring sticks used by our
ushers to keep everyone at a safe distance.

Sunday November 8th at 10:00 am.

After a successful first attempt at bringing people into the sanctuary to worship
together with our recorded service, the Council has decided to offer the opportunity again
on Sunday, November 8th at 10 am.

When you come to worship there will be numerous safety protocols in place.  Those who attend will need to sanitize their hands and confirm they have no symptoms of Covid 19 on arrival.

Masks will be mandatory.

Everyone will be ushered to their seat and asked to remain seated throughout the service.
Physical distancing will be maintained and there will be no paper bulletins distributed
or passing of offering plates.

We request that everyone arrive 15 minutes before the start of the service and there will be no more than 50 people in total allowed in the sanctuary at once.
Comments following our last “watch party” were very favourable.  People said they felt safe and despite the strangeness of having worship led from a recording rather than live, we were able to create a sense of community and togetherness.

We hope you will join us.

Special Offering for First United Church

Usually at this time at Mount Seymour we would be celebrating World Food Day, with the Mission and Outreach Team collecting food and funds to support those living in the Downtown Eastside who are supported by programs through First United.

The funds are still required to keep their programming going - providing meals and other basic needs that many of us take for granted.  This week we invite you, if you are able, to add some funds to your church offering to be designated for First United.

You can do this in all the usual ways - by dropping your offering envelope by the church (and marking an amount for First), or by sending an e-transfer to
mtsuc@shaw.ca and indicating the amount for First and the amount for your regular offering, or dropping by the office with cash or a cheque.

Please make cheques payable to Mount Seymour United as you normally would, and indicate on the memo line the amount that is for First United.  Thank you for your support of this very important ministry that we participate in.

Items Needed at First United
First United Church is also currently in need of toques, scarves, gloves (not mittens), rain ponchos, men's and women's underwear in all sizes and large bottles of shampoo.

If you have any of these items to donate, please drop them by the church.  We will have a box at the church to collect these items, and then a volunteer will deliver them to First.  We will still be having our Giving Tree during Advent, but these are needs that they have right now as our weather starts to turn.

Living Room - A Spiritually Based Mental Health Peer Support Circle

Living Room is a drop-in support group for people living with mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, bipolar and psychotic disorders. We are a confidential peer-support group who gather to receive and give support by sharing our painful and joyous experiences with each other. We pray together and help each other remember that we are not alone.

Living Room meetings will be via Zoom the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month

Making Your Offering

Our expenses continue even while programming and worship services can no longer be in-person as before.  For a video message from Ward Branch, a member of our Finance Team, please click the above picture or here

Our church Council made the decision in March to continue paying all staff at this time even though this pandemic is affecting our regular activities.  As the Thrift Shop is having to adapt its policies to the reality of Covid, we do not have the same weekly income from sales, so please continue to send your offering if possible in the following ways:

As always, we thank those of you who make your offerings to the church through Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR).  If you are able to increase your PAR givings during this time, you can e-mail Fay Butterfield at fbutterfield@shaw.ca

Changes to your existing PAR can be emailed to Fay, but if you would like to start donating by PAR, you need to print this form and fill it out. Be sure to indicate that it is for Mount Seymour United Church in North Vancouver, BC.  Please mail it directly to the PAR Administrator at the National Church office.

Her address is:

Thank you for continuing to support Mount Seymour United Church during these challenging days.
