Spiritual Practices – Mondays at 7:30pm
Quiet the Soul. Nurture the Spirit.
We are committed to being a community that nurtures the spirit and practices what we believe. To that end we offer a variety of opportunities for spiritual and emotional nurture and growth.
Every Monday evening at 7:30 pm, a different contemplative practice will be offered to quiet the soul and nurture the spirit. Come as you can, everyone welcome.
This Fall Spiritual Practices will be offered 3 Mondays a month, including a new group that will Practice the Work of Byron Katie.
All practice groups will meet in the Sanctuary.
Introduction to Meditation with Sharon Brain 7:30-8:30 pm
September 11, October 2, November 6, December 4
Whether you have meditated for years, or are just beginning, you are welcome to this monthly evening of meditation practice. We will begin each evening with instruction, then we will practice together. Much of the meditation practice is silent: some guided meditations will also be offered. Our goal is to encourage the development of mindful awareness of our own thoughts, feelings and sensations.
Sharon Brain began practicing Vipassana Meditation in 2003. She has a daily meditation practice and has attended many silent retreats these past years. She is a member of the MSUC community and lives in Deep Cove with her husband Roger.

‘The Work’ at Mount Seymour United
The Work is a simple and powerful process that enables us to work directly and effectively with the beliefs and thoughts that keep us stuck, cause stress and limit our ability to think creatively and act wisely. Trained facilitator Caitlin Frost has been offering workshops in The Work at Mount Seymour for the past few years and is also available for one on one coaching.
By learning to identify, and then inquire into our own thinking with The Work, we can transform the way we think about our problems, access powerful insights and shift underlying stressful and limiting patterns. This opens up new possibilities in our thinking and actions, and enables us to be more effective, intelligent, connected and happy in all areas of our lives and work.
Friday Morning Lectio Divina (Drop-in)
Lectio Divina with Anne Ellis every Friday Morning in the Sanctuary 9:15-10:15 am. (Note On summer hiatus – resumes September 9 2017)
Lectio Divina means ‘Holy or Sacred Reading’. It is a very old Christian prayer-form that is the slow and contemplative praying of the scriptures. Lectio Divina is both a practice for community while also being deeply personal. Come experience what the Divine wishes you to hear.
Lectio Divina is also offered on the 4th Monday evening of the month as a part of our Monday Night Spiritual Practices.
Anne Ellis has been part of the MSUC community for over 25 years, and leads our Children and Family Ministry. She is passionate about Spiritual Practices, particularly Lectio, which she has led for 2 years.
