REV. DEBRA BOWMAN
TRANSITIONAL MINISTER

Rev. Debra Bowman will be coming to us beginning June 1st until May 2026 as a transitional minister, first to cover Rev. Carla's sabbatical time, and also to help us through the transition work, visioning and dreaming that we will need to do over this next while as we as a congregation adjust to Rev. Nancy's retirement after 20 years of ministry with us and help us to assess our ministry needs into the future.

Debra loves preaching, engaging with congregations about their life and mission, politics and walking around the hills of Squamish. Currently the pull on her time varies day by day although her three grandsons will always win out when it comes to space in her heart. Debra was ordained in the United Church of Canada in 1995. She served several congregations in the Lower Mainland, most recently Ryerson United Church (now Pacific Spirit United Church). Debra has also served as Executive Secretary of BC Conference, as President of the Conference, and on the Executive of General Council. Although officially retired, Debra continues to enjoy guest preaching. Debra serves on the Board of Naramata Centre Society, is chairing the Theme and Worship Committee for the 2025 Regional meeting and is a small group facilitator with (Re)Generate: The Moderator’s Leadership Program. She is very much looking forward to serving the Mt. Seymour congregation as they transition into the future. Debra lives in Squamish with her husband Bob.

REV. Nancy Talbot

His piano style combines elements of pop, jazz, Latin, blues, gospel and folk; his secondary instruments include voice, guitar, percussion and organ. For over twenty years, Julian has served as a music leader to United Church congregations and regional/national events. Several of his compositions have been included in the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum as well as the More Voices hymnbook.

Julian holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Capilano University, a Grade 10 Piano Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music, and a Master's in Business Administration from Royal Roads University. He is a manager with Fraser Health and continues to be a popular choice for on-call music opportunities within BC and beyond.

MARCUS MOSELY GOSPEL CHOIR

Originally from small-town Texas, Marcus has sung all over North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the South Pacific, thanks to 10 years of missionary service. Since moving to Vancouver in 1986, he's performed in Ain't Misbehavin', Black and Gold Revue, and Show Boat; and earned a Jessie Richardson nomination for his starring role in his musical gospel creation, It's Time To Sing.

Six years ago Marcus formed The Sojourners, a roots gospel trio now with two acclaimed albums to their name. The Sojourners conduct workshops, perform in festivals, and make media appearances across Canada and Europe. Last September, Marcus launched The Marcus Mosely Chorale, a 60-voice community gospel choir.

Marcus believes Gospel music is a major vehicle for emotional and spiritual release and expression. It is about joy and celebration and it opens up one’s heart and mind to unseen possibilities. His goal in directing the Gospel choir is to bring together a company of individuals who come from different backgrounds, spiritual paths, and cultural experiences, and to journey with them in an exploration of new and unseen musical possibilities. If this interests you, all he asks is that you come with an open mind ready to sing.
